lovely saturday

This morning I was the guest of honor at a brunch shower thrown by some of Todd’s mom’s friends.  She has many friends who have been in her life for a long time and it was so sweet of them to throw the shower.  We had a great time getting to know each other over brunch and the brunch was delicious to boot.

Fruit salad, egg casserole, yogurt with fresh berries and granola, scones and baked french toast made for a perfect brunch.

After breakfast we shared some stories and then opened gifts.  Once again, I’m blown away by everyone’s generosity.  It’s really been amazing.

It was a really lovely way to kick off my Saturday.

After the shower, I drove to Portland, MI to meet up with my friend, Jess and have a snack with her and deliver her bridesmaid’s dress.  Jessica lives in Eaton Rapids which is about an hour and a half away so we don’t get to see each other as much as we’d like.  It’s always great to catch up and hear about her life and her sweet son, Owen.  He’s such a cutie!

After chatting for awhile we headed back to our respective homes.  She’s attending my Chicago bachelorette party in two weeks and I’m so glad that she (and all of the other girls) are making the trip for it.

This was a very busy week for me, I didn’t make it home before 9:00pm any night and right now, I am sitting.  And relaxing.  I was going to cook dinner but I think I’ll just eat hummus and crackers for dinner, because I can.  All in all, a lovely Saturday.

How are you spending your weekend?

wedding preview

After work today, I had my final meeting with my wedding florist before the big day.  From the beginning, Natalie, the owner of Stems Event Design and Mulick Floral, has been amazing to work with.  I met with several florists and was referred to her by the event coordinator at our reception site, more as a reference as a past bride than a florist.  When I met with her, I knew right away that I wanted to work with her.  You see, I adore weddings and I feel like I could have designed a dozen totally different but equally beautiful wedding days for Todd and I.  This leads to a lot of indecision and Natalie was so patient with me.  The second time we met she helped me walk through every step of the process and was so great at make suggestions but never over doing it.  She took my thoughts and channeled them into a cohesive idea and I am so glad to have found her and been able to work with her.

(This photo isn’t the final floral design for the reception but it’s similar.  No yellow tablecloths but, I’m not saying any more – we have to save the real thing for the wedding!)

Our final meeting was no different.  We had a few things to finalize and a few more to add and after an hour or so, we were done!  Flower and event design planned.  I am so, so excited to see how everything comes together.  I know that Natalie and her team will do an amazing job.

In other wedding-related news, my bridemaid’s dresses arrived today.  We ordered them from Anna Elyse Bridesmaids in California and this is the first time I’ve seen the dresses in person.  I am so happy with them.  The girls are wearing sunshine yellow dresses and I was so nervous about the color because I only had tiny fabric swatches to choose from.

Thankfully, the color is great, it’s kind of a bright daffodil color and I think it will be perfect for the wedding day – fun and cheery, exactly the vibe I’m going for.

The lighting isn’t the best but imagine this dress on a spring day, I think they’re just right.  I know the girls wil look amazing in them.

This concludes tonight’s wedding preview.  Tomorrow we’ll be only one month out from the big day and I am so excited.  It’s a little overwhelming because we still have a lot of loose ends to tie up but it has been such a fun process and I’ve loved every step of it.  I could really see myself becoming involved in the wedding planning business – a girl can dream, right?

If you’ve been a bride, how did you keep sane during your final month?

What do you look forward to when you attend weddings?

draft day

After work I went straight to Power Vinyasa class at The Funky Buddha.  Cindy was teaching tonight and her classes always make me sweat – a lot.  Tonight’s class was no exception and I left sweaty, stretched and worked out, in such a good way.  We tried a few new (to me) poses tonight including cougar and flying frog.  Tried is an important word here, cougar was one thing but flying frog was quite another – maybe next time!

When I got home there were three packages waiting to greet me.  One was a wedding gift, the other a thank you gift from the bridesmaids dress company (side note:  I should really be thanking them, they’ve been AMAZING to work with.  If you want to work with a great team, get in touch with Anna Elyse Bridesmaids, they rock!) and finally, a package sent straight from Canada.  What was in this package from the north?  My latest purchase, a custom hanger for my wedding dress made by My Amber Coloured World.  I had no idea what I was getting today because her service was so stinking fast!  I adore the hanger and can’t wait to hang my dress from it.  Amazing work Amber, thank you!

Todd’s friends were already here for the draft which meant that I basically had the house to myself.  I know that doesn’t make sense but it’s so easy to curl up on the couch next to Todd when I get home from work and waste the whole evening away together.  Needless to say, the draft took precedent and I was left to my own devices.

We ate so much food over the weekend and all I wanted was something green, believe it or not!  Normally vegetables aren’t a priority but I love green beans and we happened to have some.  To round out my dinner, I scarfed down a whole bowl of Garrett Chicago-Style popcorn that my sister brought me back from Chicago when she was in town this weekend.  I swear, that popcorn is the most amazing thing.  Even a few days out and mildly stale, it is so delicious!  The caramel corn has a slight burnt flavor to it and the cheesy popcorn is so cheesy and it stains your fingers orange, who could as for anything more?  I just love it!  We used to stand in line for hours just to get a bag of this stuff, it’s so worth it.  Thanks for the treat, sister!

The rest of my night was divvied up between watching Bones, tidying up our room and blogging, of course!

What treat would you stand in line for hours to enjoy?
